UPJS Values, Vision and Mission
The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is one of the best institutions in the field of education and science, not only in Slovakia, but throughout Europe.
The University is currently composed of five school– the school of medicine, the school of science, the school of law, the school of public administration and the faculty of arts. Doctors, dentists, nature scientists, mathematicians, computer scientists, teachers, solicitors, specialists in public administration, psychologists, philosophers and specialists in communication theory are trained here. The graduates from the university, the second oldest one in Slovakia, enjoys an exellent reputation worldwide.
The main task of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice consists of offering higher education based on the latest scientific discoveries in a broad international context. Thus, it conforms to the European developments and objectives as described in the Bologna declaration and other documents. The university fulfils its mission by promoting each student to not only develop a harmonious personality, but also a broad professional knowledge. This is achieved by expanding knowledge, as well as gaining wisdom and creativity.
The students are educated to be very tolerant, to develop critical, independent thinking and individual and national awareness. The university contributes to society by expanding the dissemination of knowledge through research and development, the support for regional and national activities, as well as the construction of an excellent learning society. These are the contributions of the university in order to enrichment the society with culture and education.
The university understands its mission as a service to the community. The university will continue its mission as a guarantor of freedom, democracy, humanism and ethics, not only in the academic fields, but also in society. It will always protect its academic privileges and its academic autonomy.
