Student Life in Kaunas

Language
The official language in Lithuania is Lithuanian. Nevertheless, you can get by with English in the daily life. Young people speak English very well, in general. At the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LUHS), the language of instruction is English. Lectures, tests and examinations are conducted in English. Due to the high percentage of international students, English is generally spoken daily. Lithuanian is taught from the first semester on, as you will need an understanding of the basics of the language in order to be able to communicate with patients in the hospital during the clinical phase of studies.
Travelling
Kaunas has an international airport that can be reached from different airports worldwide. Alternatively, it is possible to fly to the capital Vilnius. If you arrive in Vilnius, you can get to Kaunas by bus or train. The travelling time with the bus to Kaunas is about 2.5 hours, with the train about 2 hours.
Accommodation
For international students of the LUHS there are several student dorms available. Given the high demand for accommodation in university facilities, it is important to reserve soon, as there is only a limited number of places. First-semester students are given priority.
Furthermore, it is also possible to rent your own flat or room in the city center. Most students prefer this option after the first semester. The prices to rent your own flat range from 130$ – 195$ per month. If you are successful after the admission exam for the LUHS, we will of course help you find accommodation.
Sport & Leisure Time
In Kaunas and its surroundings there are cycling paths longer than 30 miles. The tourist information office also offers the possibility to rent a bike. There are many parks and green areas in Kaunas, which are a paradise for joggers and strollers and are used by many students. Kaunas has many facilities for sports enthusiasts: gyms, swimming pools, golf course, riding associations, etc., so you will have many possibilities to take a break from the everyday life. In addition, the university in Kaunas offers many possibilities to practice sports, for example basketball or soccer.
Culture & Events
As a student city, this Lithuanian city offers a variety of opportunities in culture and events. Apart from a variety of restaurants and bars, Kaunas has many modern cinemas, concert halls and theaters. Above all, the city center is worth mentioning, as its long shopping street makes it a pleasure to shop and stroll in spring and summer.
For students who love the nightlife, there are diverse clubs and pubs. Particularly in the old town in Kaunas you can always meet many students who enjoy an evening in a relaxed atmosphere at the weekends.
